Enjoyed – A Mini Musing
If you are a reader then you will absolutely understand the idea that some books leave a mark on your life. One of those books for me is The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. This is a book that certainly did the rounds in the early 2000s church. It is also a contributing factor to my coming back to faith. All that to say, I love this book! So when Mike and I started to re-read it a while back it was sure to bring some new revelations.
One such revelation was early on when Rick discusses our eternity. Yes, we get to look forward to spending eternity with God. But God is also looking forward to this time too, because He gets to spend eternity ENJOYING us.
“…He will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
Once upon a time, that idea may have made me feel a little uncomfortable – “a lofty” God looking down at His little, inexperienced creation. But this time I saw it differently. As a parent, I get so much joy out of watching my child go about life. The little quirks, expressions, sweet responses, and funny sayings all bring me joy. Just observing her play sweetly by herself brings a smile to my face and a flutter in my heart. Even when she is doing something naughty I can sometimes struggle to keep a straight face, she is just so darn adorable! And I was a part of making her, WOW!
I love the thought of God looking at me with that type of love. Chuffed with Himself for what He made. Enjoying me just for being me. I don’t need to be perfect. I don’t need to be doing anything particularly special for Him to find enjoyment in me being me – just the way He created me to be. What freedom there is in that picture!
